Scan a barcode
Scanning a barcode is the quickest way to log a packaged food accurately — point your camera at the barcode and Abraham matches it against a large Australian food database.
How to scan a barcode
- Open the chat and tap the camera (or barcode) icon.
- Allow camera access the first time you're asked.
- Hold your phone steady so the whole barcode sits inside the frame, and give it a moment to recognise the code.
- Check the product and serving Abraham found, adjust the portion if it's not quite right, and confirm.
- It's logged straight against your personalised calorie, macro and other targets.
If a product isn't found
Not every packet is in the database. If nothing comes up, just tell Abraham what it was in the chat, or snap a photo of the meal and confirm what it found. Both log the same way.
Allergen warnings
If you've listed your allergies in your profile, Abraham flags a warning when a scanned product may contain one. Important: a missing warning is not a guarantee something is safe — packaging data isn't complete, so always read the label yourself.
Good to know
- Barcode scanning is built for the roughly three days you log intensively to build your snapshot. After that, Abraham coaches off your patterns with light check-ins — you don't need to scan everything forever.
- It works best in good light with the barcode flat and fully in view.
- Scanning is one of three easy ways to log — you can also simply tell Abraham ("had grilled chicken, rice and a coffee") or snap a photo.
